We don’t meet people by accident. They are meant to cross our path for a reason.

We don’t meet people by accident. They are meant to cross our path for a reason.

If I could go back and tell myself any advice when I was first starting out as a nurse, it would be that a nursing career is an adventure. There’s highs and lows and twists and turns. It’s like a great movie where you never see the plot twist coming. And like a great movie, the best part is the characters that you meet along the way.

Not long ago you could have found me wearing scrubs exhausted, working long shifts in the hospital. I thought I had landed my dream job in the operating room, but the reality of nursing hit me much differently. I had reached a very real limit.

The first character I want to introduce you to in my story came to me at a time with high drama during my first real career conflict. I knew going back to school was the last thing I wanted to do, yet I also knew in my heart staying here forever wasn’t right for me either. I was at a crossroads.

Sometimes the greatest change in life often starts with a crossroads.

Through a sea of people in a crowded break room, a veteran nurse singled me out, and said, “Abby, You should totally become a legal nurse.” I thought to myself…a legal what? In that brief moment we shared together, there was no way she could answer all of the questions I had. My 12 hour shift couldn’t end quick enough.

I ran home to do what we all do when we want to know something. I Googled. I Googled all evening long, forgetting completely about dinner. I can summarize what I learned with my evening Google session into one simple sentence.

I realized...legal nursing was the best kept secret in nursing.

Plot twist. Not so easy. Does anything worth having ever come that easy? While I still stand firm with legal nursing being the best kept secret in nursing, the hard part for me was…unlike almost every other field of nursing, there was NO ROADMAP for legal nursing. Did that stop me? Of course not. I’m a nurse. I certainly wasn’t scared of a little hard work — I rolled up my sleeves, got in there, went for it, and became obsessed.

Six years later having left bedside nursing far behind me, I had created a 6+ figure legal nursing business all on my own — with no mentor, no guide, and certainly no blueprint. Little did I know, another nurse who had walked a very similar journey to mine, was blazing her own trail in legal nursing.

The second character I want to introduce you to is the trail blazer, and she walked into my life during another high drama career moment. I had landed my very first big project. We’re talking lots of cases coming my way…all due within 4 weeks. Oh and did I mention these were trial cases against the billion dollar companies behind big tobacco? No pressure, right?

I knew this project would require a team of nurses. I started finding nurses right away. And one of the nurses I was lucky enough to be introduced to was the trailer blazer, Catherine Spears. She worked on several of these big tobacco trial cases, and amongst the team of nurses, her work stood out the most.

Why was she so much better I wondered?

I quickly learned why. Catherine had been in the legal nurse game for over eight years at this point. She had been there, done that and had even landed the largest injury firm in the Nation. But what she hadn’t yet done was work on these types of cases against billion dollar companies.

We quickly grew a friendship with a mutual love and respect for each other, legal nursing, and mass tort cases (the cases I mentioned above against those mega companies). Catherine agreed to become my company, Law Nurses', educator. And for years now we’ve trained hundreds of nurses and worked on thousands of cases.

Over the years Catherine and I have spent hundreds of hours on the phone together. During one of our many conversations, we started discussing how scary the current state of nursing is and how undervalued nurses were. Our conversation lead to us admitting that while legal nursing doesn’t solve all of life’s problems, the financial peace and work-life balance can beautifully change one’s life.

Legal Nurse Secrets began within this “aha” moment…

We can help nurses reclaim their power and start living life on their own terms.

Take it from two nurses who hoped that was possible…and then lived it.

Our mission is to help you embrace the belief that you can create a life most nurses only dream of and give you the training, tools, and support you need to get everything you want, and then some.

Thank you for being here and for reading this. We’re thrilled we’re connected and excited for the journey ahead.
